Weight Loss
Weight loss- what are my options?
Weight loss support from the NHS is categorised into Tier 2 and Tier 3 support
Tier 2 support includes commercial weight loss programmes such as weight watchers, slimming world and similar. The NHS Digital weight loss programme is available to patients with BMI over 30 (or 27.5 for patients from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds) + either diabetes, high blood pressure or both. This service is also available for NHS and social care staff.
If you do not qualify for NHS Digital weight loss service, then our social prescribing team at the surgery can help. Please contact using the online form and ask for an appointment with social prescribing team.
Tier 3 support is delivered by specialist weight management services. Patients need to have engaged with Tier 2 support during the past 2 years to access Tier 3 support. You will need to be referred by your GP for this.

Mounjaro (Terzapatide) prescribing for weight loss in primary care.
Mounjaro has been approved for use as an adjunct to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical exercise in adults. The arrangements for how this will be delivered are currently being developed.
The target population will be risk stratified and the first year will focus on the highest end: those with BMI>40 and at least 4 co-morbidities. Subsequent years will expand to include patients with BMI>35 and one comorbidity by the end of year 12
What are co-morbidities?
These include high blood pressures, high cholesterol, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and obstructive sleep apnoea
The practice will be identifying patients who meet the eligibility criteria for year 1 once the referral pathway is open. We cannot currently prescribe Mounjaro.
If you feel you are eligible for these services or are unsure then please fill in our online form. One of our GP assistants will help to determine your eligibility and arrange the referral if this is appropriate.
