Appointments
Appointments are 10 minutes (if you feel you need longer to
discuss your problems please tell the staff when you are making
your appointment). We reserve a small number of 5 minute appointments
for emergencies on the day to assess our patients. These are
not released until the day, so we have the appointments to
deal with for URGENT problems. Urgent requests to see a doctor
will not necessarily be with the doctor you are registered
with. If you need to cancel your appointment, please give
us as much notice as possible.

Morning
open surgeries (Prees only)
To allow people to be seen as quickly as possible open surgeries
are held every weekday morning for those requesting to see
a doctor between 9:00 - 10:00am. You will always be seen if
you attend in person before 10:00am. Patients are seen in
order of arrival, but on busy days there will be a wait. To
minimise inconvenience and discomfort, if there is a significant
wait, the receptionist will give you an estimated time when
your time will be. (aprox, 10 minutes per patient ahead of
you.) You will then have the option to come back at that time
rather than sit in the waiting room. Please do not try to
phone to 'book a place', reception has been instructed not
to allow this. The reason for this is not to be difficult
but is merely to avoid the telephone line to the surgery being
engaged and possibly blocking emergency calls.
If someone appears particularly unwell or there is a fractious,
unwell child, they may, at the doctors discretion, be slotted
in sooner for everyone's safety and comfort. We hope you
will understand in the event of these exceptional circumstances.

Home
visits.
If you are not well enough to come to the surgery, please
phone before 10:30am. Home visits are very time consuming
and please remember that your problem will usually be dealt
with more efficiently and quicker if you attend the surgery.

advice

please call at 11:30am or leave a message with the receptionist

Locum
Doctors
Occasionally we may have to substitute a different doctor
from the one may have been expecting to see. This may be another
partner from Prees or Wem surgery or a locum doctor. It may
be unavoidable for various reasons including holiday, sickness,
emergency or essential training. Locums provide a valuable
service and are as well-trained and qualified as the partners.
They have to meet stringent standards to be allowed to practice
within the Shropshire PCT area so please be assured you will
receive the highest possible standard of attention.

Teaching
practice
We are a teaching practice which means we can help train medical
students , student nurses and GPs in the final year of their
higher professional training (Registrars ) . You may be offered
appointments with a student , or asked if you would mind your
consultation being videoed for training purposes. Your co-operation
with this is greatly appreciated. Dr Bartlett also teaches
at the hospital on a thursday morning and works as an assessor
for the Royal College of GPs so frequently has his surgeries
covered by a locum during these absences.

Registrar
As part of our role as a teaching practice we usually
have a doctor and the end of their training ( Registrar )
who will be working in the practice for a year. He or she
will have normal surgeries at the same times as the regular
doctors and will be available for consultations in the same
way
